I Talked to Rick the Other Day

27 Apr

And there was a rumour that the market might start 11 May if the weather cooperates.  Hassle him at the co-op to see what the deal is a few days before hand.  I’m sure he’ll really love two hundred people showing up to ask him what the deal is.  Ha ha.  Get some bulk goods while you’re there.

Port Orford Has a New Farmers’ Market

20 Apr

The new market will be in the parking lot of the Redfish Restaurant and Hawthorne Gallery.  This idea is a simple enough one that has been a long time coming for the Port Orford area.  No longer will a 25+ mile trip be the only way to get fresh food produced in the area if you don’t already know someone with the goods.

The first planning meeting by where the specifics will be ironed out will take place at the Hawthorne on Friday, 22 April, at 6pm.  Concerned persons who wish to be part of this market should come.  So far rumours are that the market will be on Saturdays, from 10am – 2pm and there will be no vendor fees or paperwork hoops to jump through.  People selling food and food-like items grown/harvested in Curry County are invited to participate.  Semi-processed products such as pickles, jams, honey and mixes, as well as properly licensed prepared foods like bakery goods will also have a place.  Space issues and signage are among the issues to be discussed, as well as wind control and promotion.
